Visit to Harwes Farm
It was a very cold and windy day when a group pupils went to Harwes Farm, in Colne, to take part in a community project, funded by the Heritage Lottery. The project involved groups of young people, working in partnership with a lead team, from Broadfield School in Oswaldtwistle, to plant hedgerow to help improve the local landscape. Our pupils learnt how to plant the hedgerow and planted many hedgerows despite the awful weather. Andrew Stephenson, our local MP, came to Harwes Farm to support our pupils and the project. During our visit, we also had the opportunity to learn about the wind turbines on the farm and were allowed to look inside them which was quite eerie. Marcus was very interested in the biomass boiler that the farm has and enjoyed feeding the boiler with pellets to keep us all warm. The pupils all said that they had an enjoyable day and cannot wait to visit again sometime soon.
